Russian President attends Orthodox Easter Service at Moscow Cathedral

Moscow, April 24 (UNI/Sputnik) Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, located a few hundred meters from the Kremlin, for the Orthodox Easter service, a Sputnik correspondent reports. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin is attending the midnight mass along with the Russian President. According to a Sputnik correspondent, the Cathedral, which can accommodate up to 10,000 people, is almost full. The Holy Fire was delivered to the Moscow Cathedral from Jerusalem, after its descent in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher on Great Saturday, the day before Orthodox Easter. Orthodox Christians are celebrating Easter this year on April 24. Putin traditionally celebrates the holiday at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in the Russian capital. In an Easter address, obtained by Sputnik, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia called on Orthodox Christians to help those who have suffered as a result of armed hostilities and thanked everyone who has already provided support.
